Working principle
Guided wave radar level meter is a radar level meter based on time domain reflectometry (TDR). It emits electromagnetic pulses, which travel down a steel cable or probe (wave guide rod) at the speed of light. When the surface of the measured medium is encountered, part of the electromagnetic pulse will be reflected back, forming an echo, and return to the pulse launching device along the same path. The distance between the transmitter and the measured medium surface is proportional to the propagation time of the pulse, and the liquid level height can be obtained by calculation.

- Reasonable installation: To ensure long-term reliable and accurate measurement of the instrument, the guided wave radar level meter can be threaded connection, the length of the thread does not exceed 150mm, and can also be installed on the short tube. The ideal short pipe is less than 150mm in diameter and less than 150mm in height. If it is installed on a long short pipe, the cable should be fixed at the bottom or the centering bracket should be used to avoid the cable from contacting the end of the short pipe.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages:
- Measurement stability: under the condition of large fluctuations in the medium, the guided wave radar level meter is more stable than the ordinary radar level meter.
- Wide range of application: It can be used to measure any medium with dielectric constant greater than or equal to 1.4, and it is generally used to measure media with viscosity ≤500cst and is not easy to produce adhesion.
- Strong inhibition of steam and foam: measurement is not affected.
Cons:
- Not suitable for measuring corrosive and adhesive liquids: Since the guided wave radar level meter is a contact measurement, the corrosiveness and adhesion of the medium need to be considered.
- Selection and maintenance cumbersome: the length of the wave guide rod (cable) is fixed according to the working condition, and generally cannot be used interchangeably, which increases the complexity of selection and maintenance.
- Limited measuring distance: Compared with ordinary radar level meter, guided wave radar level meter has a relatively short measuring distance.
